Haan, 52, died Sunday, September 5, 2010 at her home after fighting a courageous battle with cancer. Karin was born on April 2, 1958 in Morrison, the daughter of Harvey and Sue Sprengelmeyer Haan. She was the finance director at Educators of Beauty. Karin Haan was baptized in the Bethel Reformed Church in Sterling. Karin and Mark loved spending time at there cabin in Wisconsin, boating, fishing, and having fun. She also enjoyed spending time with her grandson Brandon her “Little Buddy”. She is survived by her mother, Sue Haan of Sterling; her first love, Mark Kimball; two daughters, Cami (Brett Hutchison) Ingram of Lanark and Demi Ingram of Chattanooga, TN; two sisters, Julie (Ross) Babin of Sterling and Kay (Monte) Eldert of Burlington, WI; one brother, Steve (Jenny) Haan of Sterling; and one grandson, Brandon Hutchison. She was preceded in death by her father, Harvey Haan. Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Thursday at Schilling Funeral Home, with Reverend Kenneth Zuithoff officiating. Cremation and burial will take place at a later Date. Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 5-8 PM at the funeral home. A Memorial has been established to Hospice of the Rock River Valley. Long, 81, of Polo, died Wednesday, September, 1, 2010 at Swedish American Hospital, Rockford. He was co-owner of the Hazelhurst Elevator for thirty-six years, prior to his retirement. Orlo was born June 25, 1929 in Sterling, the son of Norman and Bertha (Landis) Long. He served as a sergeant in the United States Marines during the Korean War. He married Dolores Ritenour on July 5, 1958 in Polo. She preceded him in death on December 28, 2003. Survivors include two daughters, Dee Ann (Greg Giedd) Cecchetti of Milledgeville and Julie (Ray) Civitts of Toccoa, GA; one sister, Elda (Harold) Bachman; and five grandchildren, Lori, Lisa and Leah Civitts, Dana and Jana Cecchetti; a special friend Dolores “Babe” Jackley. In recent years, Orlo enjoyed golf, watching sports, attending church, and spending time with family and friends. He was a lifelong member of the American Legion of Polo, and the Moose Lodge of Sterling. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, September 4, 2010 at Science Ridge Mennonite Church with Pastor Arnold Owens, officiating. Burial will be at Oak Knoll Memorial Park, Sterling, with military rites. Visitation will be held from 5-8PM Friday at the Schilling Funeral Home, Sterling. A memorial has been established. Ronald was born April 17, 1933 in Garden City, SD, the son of Nicholas and Anna M. (Schmidt) DeGroot. He married Donna J. Reed on September 19, 1951 in Rock Falls. Survivors include his wife, Donna; four sons, Calvin (Lori) DeGroot, Randal DeGroot and Timothy DeGroot, all of Rock Falls, and Douglas (Terry) DeGroot, of Evansville, IN; two sisters, LaVonne (Glenn) Norman, of Tampico, and Jean (Marvin) Alt, of Rock Falls; two brothers, Donald (Helen) DeGroot, of Anaheim, CA, and Lowell DeGroot, of Lyndon; two grandchildren, three great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister, Lois Balsley. Services will be held at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, August 24, 2010 at Schilling Funeral Home, Sterling with Dalmus Meeks of Harvest Time Bible Church, officiating. Burial will be at Oak Knoll Memorial Park. Mary Ann was born in Morrison, Illinois on September 13, 1937, the daughter of Creighton Sam and Florence Pearl Buell. She was united in marriage to Lloyd D. Holldorf on June 12, 1955 at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Rock Falls. Mary Ann rarely missed a sporting event or school function in which her children participated. She thoroughly enjoyed the players on their teams, and occasionally enjoyed booing the umpires. For a number of years, Mary Ann volunteered her time working at the gift shop at Community General Hospital in Sterling. In recent months, she spoke often as to how deeply touched she was by the generous outpouring of friendship and support provided by her close friends. A devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, she is survived by her husband of 55 years, Lloyd; her three children, Mark Holldorf of Sterling, Shane (Brenda) Holldorf of Sterling, and Jason (Karie) Holldorf of Bartlett; eight grandchildren, Daesha, Nicholaas, Emily, and Abigail Holldorf of Sterling, Ashley Sutton of Sterling, and Madelin, Jackson, and Creighton Holldorf of Bartlett; one sister, Peggy (Marvin) Kramer of Garden Prairie; and two brothers, Larry Lewis and Bruce Buell. She was preceded in death by her father, Creighton, mother, Florence, brother, Ed Buell, and brother, Jim Buell. Funeral service will be 11 AM Saturday at Schilling Funeral Home, 702 First Avenue, Sterling. Burial service will immediately follow at Riverside Cemetery, Sterling. Visitation will be from 9-11AM Saturday, also at Schilling Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established. Words cannot express just how much she will be missed.

Moore, 70, died Thursday, July 15, 2010. Judith A. Moore was born on September 26, 1939 in Sterling, the daughter of Haden and Jessie LeFevre Moore. Judy attended Sterling schools and graduated from SHS in the class of 1957. She then attended Coe College in Cedar Rapids, IA and graduating in 1961 with a B.A. in Biology. Judy was actively involved as bookkeeper of the family-owned business of Moore Machine in Sterling for many years. She was employed at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Evanston before moving to California in 1970 where she took employment with Kaiser Research. She then moved back to Sterling in 1975 where she was employed at CGH until her retirement. She lived in Bettendorf, IA for a few years before fully retiring. Judy was a member of the First Christian Church of Sterling and the Christian Women’s Fellowship. She also was active with both P.A.D.S. and the FISH Food Pantry. She was also a member of the Round to-it Book Club of Sterling. Judy was best known for her wonderful culinary talents by her family and friends. Judy Moore is survived by two brothers, Evan (Sue) Moore and John Moore both of Sterling; one nephew Justin (Ashley) Moore of Shannon; and many cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, and step-mother, Doris Moore. Funeral services will be 11 AM Monday, July 19, 2010 at Schilling Funeral Home with Reverend David J. Yonker, pastor of the First Christian Church of Sterling officiating. Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1-4 PM Sunday, July 18, 2010 at the funeral home. A Memorial has been established to the First Christian Church of Sterling.
