STERLING- Robert F. "Bob" Evers, 95, of Sterling, died Tuesday, January 20, 2015, at Sterling Pavilion. Mr. Evers was born on October 24, 1919 in Clinton, IA, the son of Fred and Marcella (Burken) Evers. He married Maxine Schurke on June 6, 1939 in Clinton, IA. She preceded him in death on January 10, 1989. Robert received his education in Sioux City, IA, and Denver, CO. Before his retirement, he was employed as a buyer, merchandiser, and manager for 38 years for "The Boys Store" at Sullivan's clothing in downtown Sterling. He served his country during World War II in England, France, Belgium, and Germany. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church and a life-long member of the Sterling American Legion Post 296 where, for several years, he was in the Honor Guard. He was also a past member of the Sterling- Rock Falls Elks. Bob like to play golf and was a member at Emerald Hill Golf Course for many years. He enjoyed music, particularly "The Big Band Sound". Robert also enjoyed dancing. Survivors include one daughter-in-law, Eileen Evers, of Bettendorf, IA; one brother, J. J. (Darlene) Evers of Albuquerque, NM; three granddaughters, Cheryl (Brian) Mahoney, of Hudson IA, Danette (David) Rose, of Katy, TX, and Susan (Aaron) Eversmeyer, of Muscatine, IA.; six great-grandchildren, Ben and Matt Mahoney, Rachel and Kristen Rose, and Jon and Zach Eversmeyer. Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his son Rob, and one brother, Jerry Evers. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, January 24, 2015 at 10:30 AM at Sacred Heart Church in Sterling, with Reverend Bruce Ludeke officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM. Burial will be at Oak Knoll Cemetery, Sterling. Schilling Funeral Home in Sterling handled arrangements. A memorial has been established to Sacred Heart Church and Hospice and Beacon of Hope. Condolences may be sent to schillingfuneralhome.com.
