STERLING- Avis J. Horton, 84, of Sterling, died Saturday, February 7, 2015. Avis was born on December 12, 1930 in Yorktown Twp., the daughter of Horace and Esther (Hanson) Landwehr.She married John K. Cantrell in 1949, and divorced in 1968. Avis then married Curtis Horton on February 14, 1972. He preceded her in death on January 13, 1995. Survivors include one daughter, Sandy (Jeff) Cantrell Hoos; three sons, John (Nancy) Cantrell, of Franklin, NC, Clay (Kathleen) Cantrell, of North Richland TX, and Rod (Gina) Cantrell, of Washington, NC; one sister, Lenore Reiley, of Prophetstown; one brother, Orville (Loretta) Landwehr, of Mineral; step-children, Rick Horton, Bethany (Horton) Wampler, and Lee (Jim) Horton Giltjes; 13 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Curtis Horton, her parents, two sisters, Verda Milnes, and Lavone Cederberg; and one brother, Irvin Landwehr. Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 12, 2015 at 1 PM at Schilling Funeral Home in Sterling, with Pastor Jeff Coester, of The Big Red Church, officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 12 PM to 1 PM. Burial will be held at Oak Knoll Cemetery, Sterling, A memorial has been established.
