Arne August Gronlund was born the third of nine children, on November 10, 1928, to William and Hilda (Komppa) Gronlund in Sebeka, MN. He passed away peacefully on the morning of September 7, 2025.
Arne served as a United States Army combat medic in Korea and was awarded two Bronze Stars for bravery under fire. He was honorably discharged in February, 1953 at the rank of Staff Sargent.
Arne was united in marriage with Edna Marie Ahonen on November 12, 1955 at the Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church in Minneapolis, MN. They made their home in Rock Falls, IL and raised two children, Steven and Brian. He retired from Northwestern Steel and Wire after 33 years of service.
Arne was preceded in death by his loving wife Edna on April 4, 2003; brothers Elmer, Walter and sisters Elma Stavos, Lila Ristine
He is survived by sons Steven Gronlund (Ann) of Monroe Center, IL; Brian Gronlund (Ken Schultz) of Cathedral City, CA; grandson Eric (Maegan) Gronlund, great granddaughters Madison, Emma and Brooke of Chicago, IL; and granddaughter Lisa (Dominico) Moscato of Dixon, IL; brothers, Clifford (Rose) of Sebeka, MN, Leslie (Alice Jean) of Sebeka, MN; sisters Irene (Marc) Burns of Santa Cruz, CA, and Mary Rising of Shoreview, MN; sister-in-law Beverly Gronlund of Roseville, CA.
Visitation will begin 10:00 am Thursday, September 11, 2025 with funeral services at 11:00 am at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Rock Falls, IL.
The immediate family only will be present for burial at Oak Knoll Memorial Park.
