Bruce James Bley, 74, of Sterling, died Wednesday, May 20, 2026 at Rock River Hospice and Home. He was born June 24, 1951 in Addison, the son of Lloyd and Barbara (Blair) Bley.
Bruce was a graduate of Sterling High School Class of 1970 and earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree from Western Illinois University in 1974. He married Debra Lamb on November 17, 1984 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Rock Falls, where he was also a member. He was an art teacher at Sterling High School for 33 years, retiring in 2007.
Bruce had many hobbies. He loved fishing, painting, colored pencil drawings, photography, and going to his grandchildren’s activities. His fondest memories include, fishing in Birchwood, Wisconsin every summer and spending many Spring Breaks at numerous Florida Beaches. He was also an avid Chicago Bears, Chicago Cubs and Seattle Seahawks fan.
Survivors include his wife, Debra; two sons, Andrew (Lindsay) Bley and Patrick (Sarah) Bley; three grandsons, Noah, Caleb and Everett; one sister, Julie Day and one brother David Bley.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held at 11AM on Thursday, May 28, 2026 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Rock Falls with Reverend John Sharp, officiating. Burial will follow service at Our Savior Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday May 27 from 5PM-7PM at Schilling Funeral Home, Sterling and Thursday from 10AM-11AM, prior to services at the church.
Cremation rites have been accorded.
