Carol Brainerd

January 11, 1942 — January 6, 2023

Carol H. Brainerd went home to be with Jesus on January 6, 2023 at the Serenity Hospice House in

Oregon, IL. She was born on January 11, 1942 to Henry and Mabel (Green) Keister in Dixon, IL. She

graduated from Dixon High School in 1960. Carol married Donald D. Brainerd on October 11, 1962.

Carol was a devoted housewife and mother to her 5 children. Carol held several part-time jobs including

baby-sitting, home health care, and working for the Dixon schools lunch program. Carol was a member

of the Community Church of Christ in Rock Falls, where she taught Sunday school, cleaned the church,

and was active in her women's group. She took pleasure in sending out cards to comfort others. Carol's

faith was important to her and she made sure to instill Christian values in her children. One of her

favorite Bible verses was John 3:16.


She is survived by her children, John (Anita) Brainerd of Ironton,

MO, Julia (Patrick) Rynders of Mukwonago, WI, Janice (Timothy) Madding of Rock Falls, IL, Jeffrey

Brainerd of Sterling, IL, and Joyce Brainerd of Branchville, S.C. She is also survived by her

grandchildren William Coppernoll of DeKalb, IL, Vincent (Sara) Carpenter of DeKalb, IL and their 3

children, Carson, Isabell, and Leland, and Josh Rynders of Germantown, WI. She is survived by 1

sister, Shirley Kitzmiller of Dixon, IL, and a niece, Barbara (Dennis) Budzidowski of Delran, NJ and

nephew, Randy (Justina) Kitzmiller of Deforest, WI, and several great nieces and nephews.


She was preceded in death by her parents. A special thanks to the staff at CGH Medical Center and Serenity

Hospice.


Arrangements have been made by the Schilling funeral home in Sterling, IL


Cremation rites have been accorded. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established by the family. A celebration of

her life will be held at a later date.
