Craig E. Lang, 71, of Savanna, IL, passed peacefully into the Hands of God on Monday, April 24, 2023, atthe University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, due to complications from pulmonary fibrosis.Craig was born June 22, 1951 in Chadwick, IL. Affectionately known as “Craigbob,” he was a 1969 graduate of Chadwick High School. As a huge fan of the blues, and a music aficionado regarding 60s-70s rock music, Craig was a co-founder of the Crossroads Blues Society, now based in Rockford, IL. He was the organization’s president from 1993 to 1996.
Craig worked for The Prairie Advocate News in Lanark, IL for 24 years as the “Sports Dude,” photographer, and proofreader.
Craig was an avid sports fan, especially the Chicago White Sox, Fighting Illini, and Chicago Bears. He was particularly pleased when the Bears won the Super Bowl in 1985, and when the White Sox won the World Series in 2005. In spite of his calm, kind demeanor, Craig never had a kind word about the Green Bay Packers! He also enjoyed playing golf, with both clubs and discs, darts, and pool with his friends.
Craig is survived by his mother, Mary Lang of Savanna, IL; sister Melissa (James) Hoffman of Deer Trail, CO; and sister Vicki (Rodney) Fjelstad of Sterling, IL.
He was preceded in death by his father, Reynold Lang, his mother Jean, his dear grandmothers Inez Nalley and Anna Lang, stepsister Katherine Ehnen, and stepbrother John David Traum.
Craig’s last post to his friends on Facebook was this: “When God says He’ll give you back better than what you lost, believe Him.” We lost a good one when you left us, Craigbob. And we believe Him.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service is set for 11 am on Saturday, May 6, at the First Baptist Church in Mount Carroll, IL. with Rev. Steven Newell officiating. A lunch will be served following the service.
