David Bates

Princeton- David A. Bates, 68, of Princeton, died, Thursday, October 29, 2020 at OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center of Rockford. David was born in Sterling on March 5, 1952, the son of Russell and Carol (Hooker) Bates. He was a member of the English Setter Club of America, Sigma Pi Fraternity, and the Scott County Humane Society Board. He enjoyed playing golf in his free time and watching PGA tours. He participated in dog showings and loved dogs. He went on to earn his Masters Degree in history and was a history teacher for many years. David's friends say he was a walking encyclopedia for music, especially rock & roll. Survivors include his sister, Diane Sworm of Rockford; good friend, Charles Blake of Dixon. He was preceded in death by his parents. Cremation Rites have been accorded. Memorials may be sent to Schilling Funeral Home and Cremation of Sterling at P.O box 592, Sterling, IL 61081.
