Listen to Obituary

David Francis Osman (Oz), age 52, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 6, 2026, at Citadel of Sterling Illinois. He was born on November 5, 1973, in Salem, Oregon to Charles Osman (Deceased) and Linda Bertsche. He was a man whose life was shaped by both hardship and extraordinary love. At a young age, when cancer first entered his story, it was his family who stood beside him-caring for him, lifting him up, and helping carry him through one of the hardest chapters of his life. That bond, forged in resilience and devotion, remained a quiet testament to the strength of family and the power of showing up for one another when it matters.

Years later, in 2009, his life was forever changed when he met the woman who would become his wife Marcia D. Osman (Hitt) married on May 17,2025. She came into his world with two daughters, and without hesitation, he embraced them as his own. He didn’t just step into their lives-he became a father in every sense that mattered. With patience, laughter, and unconditional love, he helped raise them, guide them, and stand beside them through life’s moments both big and small. To them, he was never anything less than Dad.

And at the center of it all was the love he shared with his wife-a partnership built on trust, strength, and a deep, unwavering connection. Together they created a life filled with meaning, standing side by side through every high and low, always choosing each other.

When cancer returned later in life, it was a battle he faced with the same courage that had defined him from the beginning. But this time, he was surrounded by the family he had previously and the family he helped build- his wife, his daughters, and the loved ones who stood by him just as he stood by them.

He had a special love for hummingbirds-admiring their beauty, their resilience, and the quiet joy they bring. Now, they feel like gentle reminders of him, symbolizing the strength and lightness he carried even through life’s heaviest moments.

He leaves behind a legacy of strength, compassion, and unconditional love-as a devoted husband, a loving father, a cherished brother, a proud uncle, and a dear friend to many. He showed us what it means to endure, to give, and to love without limits.

He is survived by: Marcia Osman (wife), Khyrsten Jackson (Kody Jackson/Step Daughter), Emilie Jackson (Granddaughter), Mackenzie Jackson (Granddaughter), Bryttnie Hitt (Chris Ahrens/Step Daughter), Lylahh Franklin (Granddaughter), Karsyn Ahrens (Grandson), Deven Reed Osman (Son), Kylee Reed Osman (Daughter), Linda Bertsche (Mother), Nance Satterfeal (Kevin Satterrfeal/Sister), Charles (Chuck) Osman (Danielle Boehl/Brother), Samuel Cutler (Brother), Wesley Osman (Brother), Colleen and Bill Elliott (Mother and Father-in Law), Tod and Dee Carlock (Bonus Brother and Sister), Breanna Carlock (Bonus Daughter), AaVya Bray (Bonus Granddaughter), Paige Stewart (Justin Stewart/Bonus Daughter), Wyatt Stewart (Bonus Grandson), Chris Stewart (Bonus Grandson). And the many friends that he considered family…

Though his journey here has come to an end, his spirit lives on-in the family he held so close, in the memories that will never fade, and in the quiet beauty of hummingbirds he loved so much.

He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.

Cremation rites have been accorded, and a Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.
