Lawrence Vernon Frye, 95, formerly of Sterling, died Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at Brighton Gardens, St. Charles. He was a lawyer in Sterling for many years at Besse, Frye, Arnold and Brooks (later Besse, Frye, Miller and Lancaster). Vernon was born October 24, 1920 in St. Louis, MO, the son of Clarence and Birdie Xaripha (Ferris) Frye. He was a Lieutenant in the United States Navy, serving in the Pacific Fleet on the U.S.S. Maryland, during WWII. He married Naomi Marie Benters on June 1, 1946 in Sterling. He graduated from Sterling High School, where he was a varsity letter winner in five sports. He matriculated from Northwestern University with a degree from the school of commerce, and received his Juris Doctor degree from Northwestern University after the War. Survivors include his wife, Naomi of St. Charles; one daughter, Barbara (Tom) Frye-McBride of Chicago; son, Lawrence J. (Louise) Frye of Woodside, CA; five grandchildren, Mallory (Kevin) Frye Platshon, of Portola Valley, CA; Lawrence Maxfield Frye of San Francisco, Maude Louise Frye of Woodside, CA; Spencer Frye McBride of Chicago and Ashley (Darren) McBride Rankine of Geneva and three great-grandchildren, Finn McBride Rankine, Van McBride Rankine and Maxfield Frye Platshon. He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Helen E. Cameron, Ruth Sonneman and Catherine Wyatt. A memorial has been established to the Sterling Schools Foundation, in lieu of flowers.
