Nancy L. Maxwell

Nancy L. Maxwell, 87, of Sterling died Wednesday December 17, 2025, at CGH Medical Center in Sterling. Nancy was born on December 2, 1938, in Sterling to Reuben and Alda Hein. After her father’s passing, she was raised by her mother and loving stepfather Ralph Schneider. She married Charles Maxwell on September 29, 1957, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Rock Falls IL. Charles preceded in death on December 31, 2021.

For many years, Nancy was a stay-at-home mom until she joined the Daily Gazette, finally retiring in 1995. After both their retirements, Chuck and Nancy moved full-time into their motor home, where they traveled extensively for over 20 years. Nancy enjoyed Friday night potlucks with all her friends at her apartment complex and spending time with her family. While the family mourns, they know she is reunited with her beloved Chuck.

Survivors include four sons Doug (Denise) Maxwell, Steve (Kim) Maxwell, Roger Maxwell, and Alan Maxwell; two daughters Sherry (LeRoy) Smith, and Michelle (Gary) Brown; nine grandchildren Lindsey (Ed) Dixon, Logan (Tyree) Maxwell, Joshua (Andrea) Maxwell, Jason (Nicole) Maxwell, Stephanie (Joe O’Halloran) Maxwell, Katie (Cody) Rhodes, Emmalie (Zach Oldfield) Maxwell, Jessica Brown and Jenna Brown; eleven great-grandchildren.

Nancy was also preceded in death by her parents; sister Vivian Buckingham; two daughters-in-law, Kala Maxwell and Annette Maxwell; and, in infancy, one great-granddaughter Skye Maxwell.

Cremation rites have been entrusted to Schilling Funeral Home & Cremation; a private service will be held at a later date.
