Obituary

Paul Magnus Helm entered into the arms of Jesus on October 16, 2026. Paul began his life's journey in Pierre, South Dakota on September 23, 1956. His father was John Arne Hjelmeseth and his mother was Ruth Elizabeth Hjelmeseth (nee Rosser). His father was a pastor. Paul graduated from St Louis Park Senior High School in 1974. He played soccer and ice hockey very well during his high school years. After graduation, Paul worked for the Conklin Company and lived for a while, during the late 1970s, in Lincoln, Nebraska. He owned his own businesses involving gaming and restaurants in Minnesota and Kentucky. He was an accomplished, over the road truck driver. Among his greatest joys, was hauling products all over our great country. Paul ministered extensively with young people in church youth groups for decades. Only heaven will know the eternal impacts of Paul pouring his life into those young people. Paul married the love of his life, Michele Huffman, on July 15, 2016. Paul’s happiest years were in Sterling.

Paul is survived by his wife Michele; brothers-in-law Tim (Zena) Huffman and Chris (Nancy) Huffman; sisters-in-law Kim (Tim) Broihier and Cathleen Huffman; brothers Arne (Elizabeth) Hjelmeseth and Eilert (Mary Lou) Helm; step-children Seth (Sarah) Johnson and Sean Johnson; children Jason (Shannon) Helm, Christina (Robert) Jones, Charmayne (Craig) Stalhood, Riley Helm, and Benjamin Helm; step-grandchildren Trinity Johnson, Charlie Johnson, Destiny (Michael) Bradley-Brown; grandchildren Ariel (Justin) Martin, Alana Arnold, Logan Arnold, and Ethan Lesniak.

Paul was predeceased by his parents and mother-in-law Sandra Huffman.

Visitation will be 10AM-11AM, Wednesday, October 21st, at Schilling Funeral Home, 702 1st Ave, Sterling, Illinois, followed by the funeral at 11AM with Rev Tim Broihier officiating. Burial will take place following the funeral at Oak Knoll Cemetery.
