Ralph Francis Romanelli of Rock Falls, IL was born August 20, 1947 in Mendota, IL to Armando and Josephine Romanelli (née Schmidt). He grew up in Cherry, IL and attended St. Bede Academy, later graduating from DeVry University. Ralph served in the Air Force during the Vietnam War while stationed at Grand Forks, North Dakota. After his military service, Ralph moved to Sterling, IL to work for Xerox and met the love of his life, Peg Romanelli (née Lindgren). They married at Grace Episcopal Church on October 19, 1974.
Ralph was the proud father of Bryony (Rafael) Altamirano, Marisa (Tor Janson) Romanelli, and Leah (Alex) Romanelli DeJesus. He delighted in his role as grandfather to Gracie and Javier.
In his retirement, Ralph served with the Patriot Guard, attending soldiers’ funerals and protecting their families during their time of grief. Ralph continued to serve his community as a member of the American Legion and Grace Episcopal Church, and as a neighbor and friend, always ready to help others.
Ralph died on February 19, 2026 due to advanced stage pancreatic cancer, having received the diagnosis less than two weeks prior. Ralph is preceded in death by his parents, Armando and Josephine Romanelli; his parents-in-law Sherman and Cora Lindgren; his sisters, Paula Brown and Linda Fusinetti; and his niece, Susan Huss. His family and friends will carry on his legacy of serving others. A memorial service will be held at Grace Episcopal Church in Sterling, IL on Saturday, February 28, 2026.
