Ramona S. Peterson, 87 of Sterling Illinois crossed over to Heaven on December 9th. Ramona was born September 9th 1938 in Dalton Georgia, daughter of Dewitt and Daisy Carter. Ramona grew up on her Grandparent’s Bud and Della Carter’s farm in Resaca Georgia, alongside her cousin and best friend for life Camelia Hopkins Wetzel.
Ramona graduated from Dalton High School in 1956 and then attended Tennessee Technical College. Ramona spent her career working in office management, finishing up at a company she loved, Foster Coach.
First and foremost, Ramona was an unending loving and devoted mother to the treasures of her life, her sons Russell, Michael and Jimmy.
Ramona was an active member of the Grace Episcopal Church in Sterling. Ramona was an avid bridge player and voracious reader. Her other passion was baking. Ramona was well known for delivering breads, cakes and cookies to her friends and church functions. She was especially famous for her Easter lamb cakes and cheesecakes that were treasured at every family event.
In her later years Ramona rejoiced in her role as surrogate Grandmother and Great-Grandmother to Camelia’s family, after Cam passed.
Survivors include; her two Sons, Russell Peterson of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Jimmy Peterson of Denver Colorado, Cousin Cindy (Dan) Bragg of Sterling, Illinois, Cousin Barbara Judd of Resaca Georgia, Sister-in-law Mary Hornbuckle of Dalton, Georgia, and the Bragg family children and grandchildren who affectionately referred to her as “Aunt Mona”.
Ramona was preceded in death by her parents, her son Michael Peterson, her fiancé Wayne Cox, Brother Ronnie Carter, and Cousin Camelia Wetzel.
Services will be at Grace Episcopal Church, in Sterling, IL on Wednesday December 17th. Visitation at 10:00 am, funeral service following at 11:00 am, officiated by Father Brian Prall. Graveside services immediately following at Riverside Cemetery.
Ramona has requested memorials to Sterling Feed The Children Program.
The family would like to offer special thanks to the staffs of The Citadel, Heritage Woods, Community General Hospital, and Hospice of Sterling, for the kindness and compassion they provide to Ramona. A special note of gratitude to Christie Maddox for the love and care she provide to Ramona in her final days.
