Robert J. Appleman, 82, of Sterling passed away Monday October 12, 2026 at Shepherd Premier Senior Living in Sterling, surrounded by family. Robert was born October 20, 1943 in Amboy the son of William and Helen (Jones) Appleman. He married Lynn (Good) on June 16, 1974 in Dixon.

Robert , ‘Bob’ was the Chief of Police in Tampico for almost 30 years and retired in 2003. Bob loved the simple joys of life. He looked forward to going out to eat with family and friends, but his greatest happiness came from the time he spent with family.

Survivors include his wife Lynn Appleman; two sons Tom (Tina) Appleman, Tim Appleman; two daughters Misty Karrow, and Mandy (Don) Simester; five grandchildren Alexis (Grayson) Zimmerman, Preston (Samantha) Appleman, Zander Appleman-Kutz, Liam Karrow, and Thomas Appleman; two great-grandchildren Nazreen Clark, and Ivory Appleman; and his fur-baby Maggie.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers Bill Appleman, Jack Appleman, and Fred Appleman; one sister Janet Faley.

Cremation rites have been accorded and there will be a private celebration of life with family and friends.
