   Sierra Sue Battles, 82, of Sterling, Illinois passed away peacefully on December 3, 2025, after a long and very fulfilling life. Sue was a devoted Catholic and loving Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Great-Great Grandmother and friend to many.

   Born on July 12th, 1943, in Maunie, Illinois, Sue was the daughter of the late Ernest & Mildred Attebury. On January 8th, 1970, she married the love of her life Lavern “Butch” Battles. They were married for a wonderful 46 years until his passing on December 11th, 2016.

   Sue devoted her life to her Catholic faith, her husband, her 5 children and countless friends and family. She had a deep love for children and worked many years as a social worker for Sinnissippi Center in Sterling, Illinois, in addition she worked many years for the Candlelight Inn Restaurant in Sterling. She loved playing cards and spending time with her friends. She will be remembered for her generosity and caring nature. She had the ability to make everyone around her feel loved and welcome.

   She leaves behind a legacy of faith and love through her 5 children, 10 Grandchildren and a host of other friends and family members.

   Sue was preceded in death by her loving parents Ernest & Mildred Attebury, her beloved husband Lavern “Butch” Battles, her precious daughter Jodi Sunday, and her 2 dear sisters Diane Vinson & Beverly Gorman.

   Sue is survived by her children Doug Rombout, Dennis Rombout, Brandee (Jeff) Storms, and Monte (Melanie) Battles. Her Grandchildren Jennifer Rombout, Erin Rombout, Alex Rombout, Tara (Seth) Pate, Amber (Arkadiy) Yeliseyev, Zach (Aleena) Rombout, Kelsey (Kevin) Wagner, Chad (Mandy) Porterfield, Monte (Kylie) Sunday, McKinzie Battles, Michael (Taylor) Battles, her sister Dalene (Julian) Whisler, her brother Rudy (Sandy) Attebury, and 23 Great Grandchildren and many Great-Great Grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

   The family extends their gratitude to the caring and compassionate staff at CGH in Sterling, Illinois for the care they provided to Sue and her family.

   Per Sue’s wishes there will be no funeral service. There will be a celebration of life in the Spring of 2026.

   John 6:40 “For my Father’s will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.”
