Obituary of Jon Frederick Block

  Jon Frederick Block, 68, of Sterling, died Wednesday, February 21, 2024 at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center, Bloomington.

   Jon was born March 29, 1955 in Tacoma, WA, the son of Fred E. and Helen (Ohms) Block. He married Deborah Hoster on March 3, 1979 in Sterling. Jon and Deborah did everything together. They especially loved to go tent camping. Jon was an over the road truck driver, in which Deborah would also join him at times on his trips. He will be missed very much.

   Survivors include his loving wife, Deborah of Sterling; his mother, Helen Block of Sterling; two daughters, Amy (Shawn) Bailey of Vista, CA and Jennifer (Scott) Schmidt of Dixon; sister, Julie (Steve) Pyle of MN; brother, Jeff Block of Rock Falls and six grandchildren, Caleb, Ethan, Noah, Lily, Alyssa and Hailey.

   He was preceded in death by his father, Fred Block and sister, Karen.

   Funeral service will be held at 11 AM Wednesday, February 27, 2024 at Messiah Evangelical Lutheran Church, Sterling with Reverend Chad Bolosan, pastor, officiating. Visitation will be from 10-11AM, prior to services at the church. Cremation rites will be accorded.

   A memorial has been established.
